                   Psychology 101 – Introduction to Psychology

Introductory course designed to assist students gain a greater understanding into the complexities of human behavior.  This includes the historical background and development of psychology as a science.  The course explores, in detail, the following areas: the biological bases of human behavior, sensation, perception, consciousness, learning, developmental psychology, motivation, personality theories, abnormal behavior, therapy, and social behavior.

                   Psychology 100 – Effective Learning Strategies

Provide instruction to students in a collaborative/cohort learning setting.  Curriculum designed to assist students with improving study skills, test preparation, time management, note taking, reading comprehension, money management, memory, learning style and organization.

College Experience 100

Developed course curriculum designed to provide a better understanding of the learning process and acquiring essential academic and life skills. Topics include: values clarification and goal setting, career exploration, educational planning, learning styles, diversity/awareness, health and wellness, leadership, college and community resources, time management, money management, stress management and relaxation.  This course moves beyond acquisition of knowledge or personal awareness.  Using experiential and collaborative learning techniques require each student to participate in the group process in addition to the traditional reading and writing material.

Course provided the opportunity to learn and explore methods for eliminating recurring thoughts, feelings or behavior which negatively affect the quality of a student’s life.  Subject matter includes; methods for attaining self-management skills, issues around negative and positive thinking, functional and dysfunctional belief systems, motivational problems and solutions, techniques for changing feelings, thoughts and behaviors, time management, procrastination, assertiveness, self-esteem, and academic motivation.

Provide individual and family counseling.  Specializing in adolescent, young adult and family issues, men’s issues, trauma, attention difficulties, autism spectrum issues, adjustment and interpersonal issues.  Utilize a humanistic-existential approach with cognitive behavioral and family system methodologies.

Provide individual and group counseling to middle and high school students and their families.  Work with school administration and faculty to develop psycho-educational programs for students and faculty such as lifeskills, substance abuse prevention, stress management, conflict resolution, anxiety and depression symptoms etc.  Experience with referrals and consulting to community mental health, family advocacy and juvenile justice professionals.

Provide individual, group, and family therapy in a residential treatment center for adolescent boys,

ages 14-19, and their families.  Integrated “positive peer culture”, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems orientation in therapy.  Direct experience with a range of diagnosis including; substance abuse, conduct disorder, ADD/ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety, grief/loss, learning disorders, oppositional defiance, attachment disorders, social phobia, sexual identity, sexual/physical abuse, family conflict, and personality disorders.  Interface with educational consultants with regards to life planning, academic, and career counseling.

Provide individual and group therapy to emotionally disturbed adolescents, ages 13-17, in a wilderness setting.  Develop treatment plan, extended assessment, and behavioral intervention plan for each client.  Interface with educational consultants, parents, schools, and mental health professionals as part of case management and aftercare programs.  Provide clinical consultation to program staff.  Received ongoing supervision and case consultation by a licensed psychologist.
