Professional and Educational Background
Alison Hastings is working toward a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling at Western Washington University and intends to graduate in June of 2012. Alison completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Western Washington University in 2009. From 2009 through 2010, Alison volunteered as an advocate for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. Alison has worked with clients at the Western Washington University training clinic where she gained experience providing services for individuals and couples. She also organized and co-facilitated a five-session relaxation group for individuals coping with anxiety and depression. Alison is interested in working with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families.
Areas of Specialization
Alison views a client-centered approach as the foundation of her work with clients and is a firm believer in the importance of understanding the unique worldview of each of her clients and in the power of providing a positive and accepting environment for all clients. Alison's theoretical orientation is also influenced by cognitive behavioral theory as well as a number of other approaches. It is Alison's belief that counseling can be a meaningful and empowering experience for clients. Throughout her training, Alison has worked with clients dealing with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, domestic violence, relationship problems, communication problems, career issues and loss. Alison hopes to have the opportunity to serve a wide range of clients and is open to working with individuals of all ages and backgrounds as well as couples and families.
Personal Information
In her free time Alison likes to enjoy the outdoors and time with her friends and family. She has many hobbies including cooking, yoga and reading. Alison also has a great appreciation for the visual arts and likes to quit, paint and carve.
