Counseling Profile

Professional and Educational Background

Mica Richards is a second year graduate student at Western Washington University.  She is working towards her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling and has experience at WWU’s Counseling Training Clinic. She has also worked as a college and career advisor to high school students and has volunteered her time as a crisis worker and advocate for survivors of sexual assault. She has been trained to work with clients seeking treatment for any of a wide range of problems and disorders, utilizing therapeutic conceptions and techniques from a number of psychotherapeutic approaches.

Areas of Specialization

Mica has experience counseling individuals, couples, families and groups. Mica recognizes the importance of building a strong working relationship with each client; genuine caring and respect are key to building this relationship. She primarily works from a client-centered and solution-focused approach, but is comfortable working within the context of others models as well. She seeks to provide a growth-supportive counseling environment. She welcomes the opportunity to work with clients from a wide range of ages, from young children to older adults, and any background, striving to provide therapy that is accessible to persons of any culture, sexual orientation, and spirituality. Mica believes all people have the innate ability to heal and grow. Mica views counseling as a collaborative process of both client and therapist and emphasizes understanding the client’s perspective.
