Professional and Educational Background

 

Dr. Evan B. Freedman has been licensed in Washington State since 1999 and received his Ph.D. and MA in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology.  He also earned a Masters of Theological Studies from Harvard University.  Dr. Freedman has further post-doctoral training in couples, child, and family therapy, forensic psychological assessment, EMDR, chronic mental illness, developmental disabilities, Critical Incident Stress Debriefing, conflict resolution and negotiation, clinical supervision, and models of brief therapy. 

 

Dr. Freedman maintains a clinical practice with children, families, adults and couples.  He specializes in child and adolescent psychopathology, neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders, ADD/ADHD, trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and adult relationship and interpersonal problems.  He brings an active, experiential orientation to his clinical work and believes in his clients’ own strengths and abilities.  He builds trusting relationships with his clients through humor and compassion. 

 

Dr. Freedman is also the founder of Freedman and Associates and has served the mental health needs of children, families and adults for over twenty years.  He has a background working in demanding wilderness environments for organizations such as Outward Bound and in leadership roles including having been the Supervisor of Adult Services at the Whatcom Counseling and Psychiatric Clinic and Assistant Director of a community mental health facility in Portland.

Personal Information

 

Dr. Freedman is an avid outdoorsman in all seasons and enjoys skiing, cycling, mountaineering, and backpacking.  He is a caring and committed father as well as a violinist who ventures to play everything from Vivaldi to Hendrix.
